A proliferation of luxury hotels in cities of all sizes is giving travelers a variety of high-end options in a growing number of locations, including Columbus, Tampa, Nashville, and Charlotte. In Charleston, long known for its historic charm and Southern culture, new development is helping transform the mid-sized city into a sought-after destination. Recently, three companies released details of plans to build luxury accommodations in the city. Bennett Hospitality broke ground this season on a $101 million, 185-room luxury property and Marriott International will open the 50-room Grand Bohemian Hotel in the fall. In April, Starwood Hotels and Resorts stated that Charleston would be a location for its Tribute Portfolio of Upper Upscale properties.
